for sunday:

Hello, friends. I hope your weeks went well. Mine derailed a bit somewhere around Wednesday and I've not had any inspiration for this here blog because my brain has felt like a pile of mush. But here is hoping for sunny skies--of the literal or figurative variety-- and a brighter week ahead. Kevin's students are in the middle of a unit on French philosophy, and earlier, he sent me this short piece by Camus:

The Invincible Summer print by Kavan & Co. available from Society 6.

My dear,
In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love.
In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, an invincible smile.
In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm.
I realized, through it all, that...

In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.

And that makes me happy.
For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me,
within me, there's something stronger--something better, pushing right back.

Yours,
Albert Camus

Within us, indeed.

Keep pushing back, becoming better and stronger all the while. Then lean into the joy that has been waiting for you, steadfast and resolute.

  2. I might just have to get that print for myself. Oh God, is it so fitting. Every time I start to feel weepy about the miserable cold, I will think of this.
